The Material

The upper part of the Afeitamás, that is to say, the part which comes into contact with the blade itself, is made from the material TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomere). TPE has the qualities of silicone and rubber, but is more suitable for modern spray-welding technology. TPE is a product already widely used in objects we apply to our everyday life, such as toothbrush-handles, cooking-tools, mouth-guards, the buttons on mobiles (cell-phones) etc. TPE is or can be used in more or less any product where one would want an comfortable, soft surface, which provides a firm grip, as well as where one wishes to protect a specific product.

The Core

The TPE can be spray-welded onto a solid plastic surface, as is the case with the Afeitamás. The Afeitamás base is made from a hard Poly-Propylene material, a type of plastic which we also already use in the products we surround ourselves with. It provides the necessary rigidity and stability to the base of the Afeitamás to function as a rest for the Razor itself.

Approved Materials

TPE is approved for and already in use today in many products within the medical and pharmaceutical sector, as well as being used by the food-industry, precisely because it is a highly stable, inactive material, which has no harmful transfers of any kind and therefore live up to the demands of any and all products that come into physical contact with people. This is exactly why TPE is the obvious choice for the Afeitamás, which comes in contact with the razorblades and thereby, indirectly with the skin.

The softness of the TPE can be chosen over a wide range, all the way down to the consistency of the human skin itself and even softer. This is the essential quality of the rinsing function of the Afeitamás.
